How do I know what kind of therapy will help me the most?

There are many different therapeutic approaches and techniques, so it might feel daunting to choose which approach is best for you.

Research indicates that the top two influences of success in therapy are the client's willingness and the quality of the relationship between the therapist and the client.

I offer a free 30-minute consultation to help ensure that it feels like good fit. Please contact me to schedule that initial meeting.

Shouldn't I just be able to deal with things on my own, or with help from friends?

Life is tough. And, on top of that, many of us have internalized the message that, "I'm weak if I need help." Unfortunately, this adds another layer of judgment and pain onto our struggles. Getting the support you need to heal and grow is a courageous choice that demonstrates your commitment to yourself and to your well-being.

Friends are often a great resource but the support from a therapist is different in that it is intentionally one-sided. The therapist is focused solely on you, and offers a unique perspective and skill-set to help you better understand yourself and cultivate new skills to make positive changes in your life.

Does what I talk about remain confidential?

Yes! Confidentiality is essential to a trusting counseling relationship. It is one aspect that helps form a safe container in which you can work through your personal struggles. Nothing about you will be disclosed without your written permission, except in cases of possible harm to yourself or others, or a criminal subpoena.

Where do sessions happen?

Sessions typically occur in my Boulder office, but online/video counseling sessions can be scheduled as well.

Do you take insurance?

I do not accept insurance but if you have out-of-network coverage, I'm happy to provide you with a Superbill for you to submit for reimbursement. In order to create a Superbill, I am required to give you a "Diagnoses Code" which will become a part of your medical record.

Some questions you may want to ask your insurance company about out-of-network coverage for outpatient therapy/behavioral health include:

  • How many sessions per year are covered, and at what rate?
  • Is preauthorization required?
  • What is my deductible and how much of it have I already met?
